Benoni – The ANC caucus in Gauteng remained committed to advancing the objectives of its Transformation, Modernisation and Re-industrialisation (TMR) programme, its whip in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Brian Hlongwa, said on

Saturday.

Hlongwa was briefing the media on the outcomes of the caucus lekgotla, which would continue until Sunday.

The theme of the third annual lekgotla is 'People at the forefront of government advancing transformation, Modernisation and re-industrialisation through radical oversight: Re Mmogo'.

The TMR programme was inspired by times of “economic meltdown”, Hlongwa said.

Community engagements would be enhanced in addition to the Ntirhisano programme, which addressed service delivery related challenges, through Re Mmogo, the caucus' oversight outreach programme.

The TMR programme, he said, would:

* Ensure that the Gauteng Provincial Legislature remained a site of struggle and platform for ideological battles. The caucus would use the legislature as an institution to find solutions to challenges related to service delivery. This it would do through, among other measures, by introducing legislation to address the socio-economic challenges of Gauteng communities.

* Ensure Gauteng was home to good governance and that departments and the executive would be held accountable in line with its oversight mandate as public representatives.

* Ensure all human needs were addressed, prioritising human settlement issues including the introduction of the Mega Human Settlements Projects.

* Mobilise communities together with law enforcement agencies to embark on a radical fight against the scourge of substance abuse.

* Roll out Re Mmogo, a caucus outreach programme, throughout the province to ensure that all communities’ needs were addressed.

* Encourage all communities, in particular youth and women, to be active participants in South Africa's hard-earned democracy, by registering to vote in the upcoming local government elections, among other measures.

* To mobilise communities towards a united, democratic, non-racial, non-sexist and prosperous society in the effort to reduce poverty, inequality and unemployment.

* To consolidate parliament's constituency offices as centres for the promotion of community development programmes of the ANC.

* Ensure public representatives were actively involved in the mobilising society for health lifestyle.

* Ensure that the caucus served the people of the province with commitment, discipline and dedication through Re Mmogo.
