Cape Town - Projecting the pictures of Steenberg'smost wanted criminals onto the walls of apartment blocks in neighbouring areashas led to four arrests in less than 24 hours, the City of Cape
"The open-air screening drew a lot of attention fromresidents and had the desired effect of getting residents talking,"mayoral committee member for safety and security, JP Smith, said in astatement.
There was also a R1 000 reward system for informationleading to a successful arrest.
"This is but one of the ways in which we're gettingresidents to co-operate with us and do their bit to make their communitiessafer," Smith said.
By the end of the operation, which took place onThursday, four of the suspects on the list had been arrested from variouslocations in Lavender Hill.
"The operation also yielded seven more arrests inSteenberg and Retreat and one in Hanover Park, all for possession ofdrugs," he added.
Various quantities of dagga, tik, Mandrax and just overR1 000 in cash were recovered during the arrests.
Due to the success of the first operation, Smith said the"wanted" roadshow would be taken around the city.
"I am confident that the more we publicise detailsof the suspects, the more success we'll have in apprehending them."
