Cape Town – Human Settlements Minister LindiweSisulu was deeply offended by an assertion that she was "loaded withmoney", made during a noisy session of the National Assembly on Wednesday.

"That is not

true! That is absolute rubbish!"said Sisulu after a comment by DA National Council of Provinces member, JacquesJulius, during the State of the Nation address (SONA) debate.

But when Sisulu used the word "rubbish", theopposition benches roared, waiting for her to be forced to withdraw the word, which earlier brought proceedings to a grinding halt when presiding officer,Raseriti Tau, declared it unparliamentary.

Sisulu said she would withdraw, but added: "I havebeen insulted here."

"You cannot allow a blatant lie to continue,"she implored Tau.

According to a copy of his speech, Julius said:"Minister Sisulu, the ANC has failed to address the huge gap between therich and the poor. Instead, the Cabinet have enriched themselves heavily. Youare loaded with cash, mostly through corruption – money that was meant to buildour economy."

Sisulu closed Tuesday's debate on President Jacob Zuma'sSONA by praising the president.

'That man'

According to the Members Register of Interests, Sisuludeclared a 1 400m2 property in Linden, Johannesburg, where herparents lived, and had interests in two trusts, the details for only one ofwhich were provided.

She declared a directorship in a voter registrationcampaign NGO for 1999, called Votani Mawethu. She declared 500 ordinary sharesin Sanlam worth R36 000 and 75 shares worth R75 in Edgebay Investments.

Sisulu is the daughter of late ANC stalwarts, Albertinaand Walter Sisulu.

IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi stood up and wearilyraised yet another point of order. He complained that it wasunparliamentary to call Zuma "that man".

"We are called honourable members," he said.

'Political dwarf'

When Tau asked him if he had said that about Zuma, Juliusretorted: "Honourable chair, I thought you are in the house. You hearsomething, you don't hear something. Can you please take charge of the House."

Julius said he had forgotten whether he said it or not,and advised Tau to consult Hansard, the record of proceedings in Parliament.

"It's been an emotional time chair, so long ago, Imight have, I might not have."

He stirred the pot even more by saying a "politicaldwarf" had been grown in one week, and he had barely finished the sentencewhen there was a complaint.

He raised his shoulders and his palms and lookedinnocently at Tau saying: "It's an expression."

"I withdraw the part that you want me to withdraw, and I add that it's a honourable political dwarf."
