Cape Town – The drunken driving case against ANC nationalexecutive committee member Tony Yengeni is expected to continue in the CapeTown Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Yengeni was previously granted R5 000 bail.

He was arrestedin Green Point, Cape Town after being pulled over while driving his whiteMaserati erratically in 2013.

As an alternative to the drunken driving charge, Yengeniallegedly drove with a blood-alcohol level of 0.25%, five times the legal limitof 0.05%.

In January, Sergeant Jonas Gomba, who took Yengeni intocustody in 2013, told the court he called for back-up after four men tried toobstruct him during Yengeni’s arrest.

"They arrived at the scene and told me I am not allowedto handcuff him, asking if I know who this man was. One of them approached mein a threatening way," Gomba said.

He said Yengeni was being "riotous", and swore andpointed his finger at him after he was pulled over after nearly hitting a curb.He apparently refused to take a breathalyser test.

Advocate Dirk Uijs, for Yengeni, said his client refused asthe kit had not been sealed.

Gomba said that while he was driving Yengeni to have himcharged, the politician expressed regret for his behaviour.
